Washington, D.C. — Access2Care, a subsidiary of American Medical Response, has contracted with AmeriHealth Caritas District of Columbia, a mission-based Medicaid managed care plan serving more than 100,000 residents of the District of Columbia (D.C.) and Lyft, the fastest growing rideshare company in the US, to give members access to convenient and reliable same day and next day transportation.
Medicaid members often refer to their lack of access to reliable and convenient transportation as the biggest challenge they face when deciding to seek care. Lyft addresses this issue by providing “a ride whenever you need it” to all AmeriHealth Caritas DC members. Lyft gives members the confidence that comes with knowing they will be picked up within minutes of their request, be driven directly to the doctor without having to stop or needing to share the ride with others, and then be driven back home within minutes after their doctor visit. For most members, the free transportation AmeriHealth Caritas DC provides via Lyft means hassle-free access to doctors, dentists, urgent care centers and any other covered health care services.
Access2Care, the non-emergency transportation subsidiary of American Medical Response (AMR) and the leading broker of Medicaid trips using Lyft, makes it possible for AmeriHealth Caritas DC members to access Lyft by phone and text message, eliminating the need for them to download the app or enter a personal credit card. Access2Care’s superior technology capabilities and exceptional customer service, combined with expertise and experience with the Lyft platform, has enhanced the overall experience for AmeriHealth Caritas DC members needing flexible and on-demand ride options for their doctor appointments. “Partnering with AmeriHealth Caritas will allow us to provide members with a premium non-medical transportation experience”, said Sven Johnson, CEO of Access2Care. “We look forward to serving AmeriHealth Caritas members by providing them with the flexibility and experience desired when scheduling and attending medical appointments.”
“AmeriHealth Caritas DC’s Lyft program is having a major impact on the lives of our patients”, says Michelle Swinson, Director at the AprilMay Company, Inc. “My patients tell me all the time that this service has been a real Godsend for them. They now choose to make doctor appointments and therapy sessions that they would have skipped in the past because of the long wait for their ride to show up and then the multiple stops during the trip, causing them to miss work resulting in lost wages each week - which is not trivial to the average working family.”
“We know that our members lead busy lives and should not have to choose between missing several hours of work and going to the doctor,” said Karen Dale, Market President for AmeriHealth Caritas District of Columbia. “Solving this dilemma for our members has long been a priority for us, so we are very pleased that we can now offer convenient and reliable transportation options to all members via Access2Care and Lyft.”
“We’re thrilled to partner with AmeriHealth and expand our existing relationship with Access2Care, making it easier for AmeriHealth Caritas DC members to get to and from their doctor’s appointments,” said Steve Taylor, Mid-Atlantic General Manager, Lyft. “This initiative is part of our larger effort to reduce medical transportation barriers and ultimately improve people’s lives with the world’s best transportation.”
